The quality of a school district can be measured in many ways – by an experienced teaching staff, modern facilities, or the amount of per-pupil spending. But none of these factors really matters unless students achieve. When parents send their children to school, they have the right to expect that learning will take place. We understand this expectation. It is the basis of our vision and the foundation for our work. The Osceola County School District focuses on improving instruction and enhancing the day-to-day interaction between teachers and students in order to raise student outcomes. By analyzing performance data, as well as our instructional strategies, we have begun work to eliminate achievement gaps among groups of students. We are committed to allocating funds as necessary to support student performance. We hold high expectations for all students, academically and behaviorally. Although our emphases are on classroom instruction and student results, we also insist that schools promote a climate of respect for all, just as we help our students and staff develop an appreciation of diversity. We believe that all students can, must and will learn at high levels. Likewise, we expect all teachers to teach at high levels, all administrators to lead at high levels, and all support staff to facilitate the operation of the school district at the very highest level. Indeed, it is because our students deserve the best that we must and we will succeed. “Continuous Improvement” is the rallying cry for the Osceola School District. We’ve made great progress as their annual report will show. However, if we are to sustain these gain and make further progress, we must continue to evaluate and revise our programs and make the best decisions in the interests of each and every child. On behalf of our students, we accept this challenge. Blaine A. Tax Considerations >Beneficial Tax Laws
American tax law offers a significant capital gains tax exemption that allows taxpaying homeowners to unlock home equity and end the spiraling cycle of "investing up." First-time buyers enjoy expanded rules for Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) and 401(k) plans, rules that allow penalty-free withdrawals to purchase a home.
Every two years, married sellers of principal residences who file joint federal income tax returns are allowed a $500,000 exclusion ($250,000 for singles) from capital gains tax. For sales that took place after May 6, 2003, the maximum capital gains tax rates for profits above the exclusion dropped from 20% to 15% for higher income taxpayers, and from 10% to 5% for lower income taxpayers.
Homeowners can now consider several new options. People who find themselves at an empty-nester stage (no children at home) in a four or five bedroom home with a large equity have been able to unlock their equity dollars, using the income to help their children buy a first home, take a luxury cruise, remodel the house or purchase a second home for vacation or retirement.
Consult your tax advisor for advice regarding your particular circumstance.
